Civil rights worker in Clarksdale, Mississippi during Freedom Summer. Mandel returned to Berkeley and continued his activism. He was arrested for conspiracy during the demonstrations during Oakland's Stop the Draft Week in October of 1967. He and the rest of the Oakland Seven were acquitted on March 28, 1969.
