Maier, Irwin, 1899-
Chairman of The Journal Company, publisher The Milwaukee Journal and The Milwaukee Sentinel, from 1968 to 1977. New York Times, 1 Sept. 1994: "Mr. Maier (pronounced MY-er) was born in Mellen, Wis. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Commerce in 1921 and was hired by The Milwaukee Journal as an advertising salesman in 1924. He rose through the ranks to become chairman of The Journal Company from 1968 to 1977, when he stepped down. He was chairman of the American Newspaper Publishers Association in 1962 and 1963."
