- John Oliver Hodges was president of the student body at his high school in Greenwood, Mississippi when he became involved with the civil rights movement. Hodges became a prominent figure in SNCC and worked with the Leflore County Voters League in Greenwood, Mississippi to promote voter registration among the county's African American population.
