- African American civil rights worker, CORE staff member from from 1961 to 1964, and CORE's southern regional director, and former wife of Walter Young. At the age of twenty-five, Hamilton was arrested for her participation in a June 25, 1961 Freedom Ride from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi via the Illinois Central Railroad.
