Grubbs, Michael R., 1935-

Biography:

Born in Coffeeville, Kansas in 1935, Michael R. Grubbs was a student at University of California, Los Angeles when he was arrested for his participation in the Freedom Rides during the summer of 1961. As part of the Freedom Ride, Grubbs, along with fourteen others, rode an Illinois Central train from New Orleans, Louisiana to Jackson, Mississippi where he was arrested on 30 July 1961. Grubbs was the son of noted activist Darnell Medlock Grubbs and later married Thelma Jones.
