SNCC field secretary in Alabama and California from 1965 to 1966. Cannon was founder and editor the newspaper the Movement, based in San Francisco, California, a position he left to organize Stop the Draft Week in 1967. He was one of seven activists, known as the Oakland Seven, to be arrested on conspiracy charges for their involvement in Oakland's Stop the Draft Week.
