- Civil rights leader, executive director of the Chicago Urban League from 1956 to 1972, and a leader of the Chicago Freedom Movement. Born November 11, 1910 in Oberlin, Ohio and died May 13, 1987 in Chicago. He also served as the first president of Portland, Oregon's Urban League.
