Ashe, Arthur


African American tennis player, born July 10, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia and died February 6, 1993 in New York, N.Y of complications from AIDS contracted from blood transfusions during heart surgeries. Ashe was the first black winner of a major men's singles championship. Arthur Ashe is mentioned within six references of records maintained within FBIHQ main files concerning the Black Panther Party, the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, the Revolutionary Union and two newspaper articles. Mr. Ashe was not investigated by the FBI.
