- Description:
- Title supplied by cataloger. The first twenty-seven seconds of the clip are silent; the camera pans around a large desk, where people are gathered around U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy. Seated immediately to Kennedy's right is Gloria Richardson (1922-2021), founder and spokesperson of the Cambridge Nonviolent Action Committee (CNAC), the first adult-led affiliate of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). At twenty-eight minutes into the clip, the microphone, now turned on, captures Richardson stating that she believes that civil rights work will result in a victory for the entire city of Cambridge. Kennedy turns the microphone over to an unidentified man, who agrees with Richardson's assessment. Kennedy then recognizes that some unjustices have been remedied. He states that although not everything desired has been accomplished, the city has made "a major step forward." He would like to see both white and African American residents of Cambridge work out what remains to be settled.
