While some Southern States and communities fought court-ordered school integration by creating private, segregated schools, some community members recognized the importance of public schools and worked to keep schools open in the face of integration.</dc_description>
<dc_description>The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.</dc_description>
