Cartoon from the Zeman (Zoya) Freedom Summer Collection. Cartoon produced by the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) that shows the coffins of three civil rights workers - Michael Schwerner, Andrew Goodman, and James Chaney - who were killed in Philadelphia, Mississippi, in 1964. Two older white men are standing by the coffins while one says, "Ain't it awful what's going on up the'ah in New Yawk!" In the top right-hand corner of the document there is a smaller image of three pairs of hands, those of the murdered civil rights workers, breaking chains. The words "now with your hand, pull the lever down" are printed above the hands.
Electronic version made available through a National Leadership Grant for Libraries from the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
