Volunteers and local African-American residents mingle on the front steps of St. Paul United Methodist Church after a Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) meeting during Freedom Summer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 1964. On the far right is volunteer Carolyn Reese, Co-Coordinator of the Freedom Schools in the Hattiesburg project. She is talking with folksinger 'Folksy' Joe Harrison, who is standing toward the middle wearing a white shirt and dark pants. In the center foreground is volunteer Denise Jackson.
