Local activists and volunteers leave St. John United Methodist Church at Palmers Crossing in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after a meeting in support of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP) during Freedom Summer, 1964. J.C. Fairley stands on the porch at the far left. To the right of Fairley, his hand resting on the rail, is volunteer William D. Jones, who later changed his name to Umoja Kwanguvu.
