From the Randall (Herbert) Freedom Summer Photographs. Volunteer Lorne Cress, Director of the Community Centers in the Hattiesburg project, talks with local African-American residents who are helping to turn an old kindergarten building into the Palmers Crossing Community Center located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The center opened on July 18, 1964. The young African-American man sitting against the wall wearing a white tee-shirt is Bobby Plump.
