From the Ellin (Joseph and Nancy) Freedom Summer Collection; Letter from Karen Pate of the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) to friends, dated June 11, 1965. Pate thanks friends for their financial support and requests further support. She also updates friends on the progress and current projects of COFO, including the Summer Project, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP), the Mississippi Freedom Labor Union, the Poor People's Corporation, and freedom schools. Pate also mentions L.J. Martin, the first African American to be on a local ballot in Mississippi since Reconstruction.
