From the East (P.D.) Collection. Typewritten copy of an address by P. D. East entitled, ;On the Attainment of Distinction,; given at Vassar College in December 1962. East discusses his newspaper, The Petal Paper, and the responses he received from publications that were considered controversial by some in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi, area. He discusses the constant harassment, threats, and slander to which he was subjected as a result of his social and political views. Other topics include race relations, politics, liberty, and the distinction of freedom.
