Oral history.Two interviews conducted on April 1, 1993 and January 6, 1995 with Ariel Barnes (born 1917). Mrs. Barnes was born in Forest, Mississippi, but moved to Hattiesburg shortly after. She attended Alcorn University, where she earned a degree enabling her to teach school. She taught at Rowan in Hattiesburg. Additionally, she worked at the Hattiesburg Library's branch on Sixth Street.

This interview is part of the Civil Rights Documentation Project, funded by the Mississippi Humanities Council, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, and the University of Southern Mississippi.
