Photograph of Leo Branton Jr., a prominent civil rights and entertainment attorney. Working with lawyer Ben Margolis, Branton in the 1950s defended members of the Communist Party who were accused of advocating the overthrow of the government. He later represented 13 members of the Black Panther Party who maintained they were unlawfully attacked by the Los Angeles Police Department. Branton defended Angela Davis during her 1975 trial for murder, kidnapping and conspiracy; Davis was acquitted of all charges. Branton's entertainment clients included Nat King Cole and Dorothy Dandridge.
