Photograph of Paul Robeson, center, and Tom Bradley, right, taken at the California Eagle's seventieth birthday party. At the time the photograph was taken, Bradley was a member of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD); he later was elected mayor of Los Angeles in 1973 and served five consecutive terms. The man on the left is another LAPD officer who served with Bradley on the vice squad. Police officer Roscoe (Rocky) Washington is second from the left, next to Robeson. The man standing between Robeson and Bradley is another LAPD officer. Robeson, a singer, actor and social activist, was a friend of Charlotta Bass, publisher of the California Eagle.
