Photograph of Lily Golden playing the piano. Golden was a student at the Secondary Music School, an affiliate of the Conservatory of Moscow when she was a teenager. She was also a champion tennis player, and one of her tennis rackets stands alongside the wall in the background of the photograph. Her father, John Golden, was born in the United States and moved to the U.S.S.R. in 1931 to avoid racial persecution. Lily was born and raised in Tashkent and later moved to Moscow to study African history and music.
