Title:Charlotta Bass receives proclamation from attorney Walter L. Gordon, Jr., circa September 1949, Los Angeles
Date:1949 Oct.
Description:

Photograph of Charlotta Bass receiving what appears to be a proclamation in her honor from attorney Walter L. Gordon, Jr. The sign in the background welcomes delegates to the National Baptist Convention, held from Sept. 8-11, 1949, so the photograph could have been taken during that period. Gordon began practicing law in Los Angeles in 1937 and was a founding member of the Langston Bar Association, an organization of African-American attorneys. At one time, Gordon's law office was located in front of the California Eagle building at 4071 Central Avenue. In 2003, Gordon, 95, received the Los Angeles County Bar Association Shattuck-Price Outstanding Lawyer Award.
