Photograph of members of the Independent Progressive Party (IPP) of California on their way to submit signed petitions to allow their party to participate in California's primary election on June 1, 1948. The woman in the center of the photograph wears a campaign button with the slogan, "Wallace in '48," proclaiming her support for Henry Wallace, the Progressive Party candidate for President. The IPP was established in California in 1948 to support Wallace's candidacy. According to the memoirs of Charlotta Bass, publisher of the California Eagle and an active IPP member, the party needed to obtain 275,970 valid signatures by Feb. 26, 1948 to qualify for the 1948 elections.
