Title:Picketers protest high grocery prices and inflation, circa 1947, Los Angeles
Date:1947
Description:

Photograph of picketers outside a grocery story calling for an end to high grocery costs and other inflationary prices. Each of the six picketers holds a sign; four of the signs have the words "16th Cong. Dist. C.P." (Congressional District Communist Party) printed at the bottom. The first man's sign reads "Stop stalling! Gov. Warren. You have the power to halt inflation. Use it!," a reference to California Governor Earl Warren. The second man's sign reads: "We are picketing high prices, not markets!." The third man holds a sign with a picture of a worker, his sleeves rolled up, ready to battle a smaller man in a business suit in the foreground of the picture. The sign has the slogan "A job to do." The woman in the white blouse and dirndl skirt holds a sign that reads "Consumer's strike next Thursday. Buy nothing on Thursday." The man behind her holds a sign with a picture of hand; the word "Voters" is on the sleeve and one of the fingers is pointing to what appears to be a politician. The sign reads "Not forgotten." The woman at the right holds a sign reading "Join the price lines. Demand adequate price control."
