Title:Progress Report on NAACP civil rights activities in Charleston and Spartanburg, July 30, 1962
Date:1962 July 30, 2007

Five page progress report dated July 30, 1962 that provides updates on civil rights activities conducted by the Charleston, South Carolina, and Spartanburg, South Carolina branches of the NAACP. The Charleston branch outlined gains of job upgrades and newly established jobs for African Americans in assorted Charleston businesses that came about through a combination of direct action, negotiation tactics, and filing of complaints with the President's Committee on Equal Employment Opportunity. The Spartanburg branch reported on the status of sit-in demonstrations organized at Woolworth and Kress department stores to desegregate dining facilities in those establishments; both demonstrations in Spartanburg were threatened by violence.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
