Description:

Four pages of a typewritten speech dated November 10, 1963 that seeks participation and responsibility in the civil rights movement, and memorializes the late civil rights leader Medgar Evers. The speech invokes five elements of individual responsibility, which are listed as purpose, patriotism, altruism, urgency, and dedication; the speech notes that these elements were embodied by numerous religious figures, and in Medgar Evers. The speech ends with several quotations from Medgar Evers that explain why he chose to remain and work in Mississippi to further civil rights efforts.
