|Date:||1944 Jan. 16, 2008|
Six pages of a handwritten sermon, dated January 16, 1944 and titled "Sailing with the Savior on Life's Sea" that quotes the Biblical text Luke 8:22. The sermon emphasizes that although people cannot control what happens in their lives, guidance and comfort can be sought with Jesus Christ. The sermon heralds the faith demonstrated by a crew of servicemen led by Eddie Rickenbacker who were stranded on life rafts in the Pacific Ocean. The sermon also notes that Christ is present during times of fortune and misfortune; establishes that faith in Christ will still be necessary when World War II is over; urges Christians to worship at all times, not just times of crisis; and states that the temptation to give up stems from a lack of religious faith.
