Mahala Murchison, the first African American to live in Austin, TX. Mahala's father was the brother to Alexander Murchison, he died when she was about 10 years old, and on his deathbed Alexander promised to take care of her, she was brought with his family to Travis Co. Austin TX, and became the first black to settle there.
