Title:The rise and fall of Jim Crow
Date:1863-present
Description:

Web site companion to the PBS film "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow." The site contains a timeline from 1863 when the Emancipation Proclamation was issued until 1954 with information about significant events in the history of Jim Crowism in the United States. It contains video, photographs, and historic documents about significant people (such as Ida Wells, Hosea Williams, and Booker T. Washington), events, and organizations. Background information on the national fight against Jim Crow is divided into sections on the president, the Congress, and the Supreme Court. Interactive maps provide information on where Jim Crow laws were enforced, the location of African American colleges and universities, the patterns of population and migration, and the sites of lynchings and riots. The tools and activities section covers the topics of voting and individual perspective and include an exclusive video and a comment forum. Lesson plans, activities, and resources make up the teachers' section.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
