This is a transcript of the copy of the March 15, 1965, speech on voting rights that the President took with him to the podium. Lyndon Johnson delivered the speech to a Joint Session of Congress in a nationally televised address. It announced his intention to send a bill to Congress that would eliminate illegal barriers to the right to vote and described the purpose of the bill and how it aligned with American democratic values.
The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
