The work is far from pleasant, since laborers are being forced to work in marl mud, but they are carrying on the task as efficiently and as rapidly as could be hoped for." Stetson Kennedy (1916-2011), writer and civil rights activist, collected these photographs during the course of his career fighting for equality throughout the Southern United States.
