| Date: | 1932 Sept. 28 |
| Description: | In this letter, Copenhaver requests Mary Barker's written support for a petition against an allegedly unfair conviction of African-American men. Part of the Southern Women's History Website. See also the "Protest on Behalf of Southern Women". In 1931, nine African American young men, ranging in age from twelve to nineteen, were accused of raping two white women. All-white southern juries convicted the men and sentenced them to death.
