This protest begins, "We, Southern women, protest against the use by Southern men of the excuse of the "protection of Southern womanhood to condone lynchings [...]." Part of the Southern Women's History Website. See also the "Letter from Eleanor Copenhaver of the National Committee for the Defense of Political Prisoners to Mary Barker, 28 September, 1932."

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
