Online manuscript resources in Southern women's history

Title:Online manuscript resources in Southern women's history

Online Manuscript Resources in Southern Women's History is a collection of digitized manuscript, printed, and visual materials drawn from the collections at the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library in the Robert W. Woodruff Library at Emory University. The purpose of this site is to provide online access to selected manuscript resources in the Rose Library's collections and to increase awareness of the Rose Library's collections in Southern and women's history. The materials compiled and presented here span over a century of history and include topics such as women's suffrage, beauty culture, women and socialism, and civil rights. This site also offers selected "teaching moments" that situate materials from disparate collections under a common theme and provide additional historical context, sample discussion questions, and resources for further research.

The collection includes the subject "Race, Civil Rights, and Student Movements." Materials in this subject area include materials from the Council of Federated Organizations in Mississippi, the Georgia Council on Human Relations, Mississippians for Public Education, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and the Southern Student Organizing Committee. Digitized items include copies of reports, letters, advertisements, pamphlets, and photographs.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
