Title:Greensboro sit-ins : launch of a Civil Rights movement

Web site with information about the sit-in demonstrations in Greensboro, North Carolina, beginning on February 1, 1960, when four African American students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University went to the Woolworth store in downtown Greensboro and asked to be served at the whites-only lunch counter. The site includes biographical information about local and national Civil Rights movement leaders involved in the Greensboro movement; photographs, video clips, and audio files of interviews with participants and commemorative events; newspaper reports on the event and its effects; a timeline of selected events of the Civil Rights movement; information about local efforts to commemorate the sit-ins; and links to other Web sites with Civil Rights materials.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
