Photographs covering the history of the Highlander Folk School from 1932 to 1999. Several civil rights figures are featured including Fred Shuttlesworth, Septima Clark, Martin Luther King, Jr., Ralph Abernathy, C. T. Vivian, Bernice Robinson, James Bevel, Rosa Parks, and Esau Jenkins. Activities depicted include meetings at the school, voter registration and citizenship schools in South Carolina, and negative reactions to the efforts of the school.

The Civil Rights Digital Library received support from a National Leadership Grant for Libraries awarded to the University of Georgia by the Institute of Museum and Library Services for the aggregation and enhancement of partner metadata.
